The Story of Skins

Skins’ origins trace back to Philip and Michiel, two friends who encountered unique beauty brands abroad that were unavailable in the Netherlands. Recognizing a gap in the market, they opened the first Skins boutique in Amsterdam’s iconic Nine Streets area in 2000, showcasing a mere seven niche brands at the time. Yet the warm, home-like atmosphere and the boutique’s curated offering quickly captured the hearts of customers—and, in the years since, Skins has expanded to feature over 70 meticulously chosen brands from around the world.


From Amsterdam to Global Reach

The Skins concept thrived in Amsterdam, forging an approachable yet refined boutique experience. As international fascination grew, Skins ventured beyond Europe, finally arriving in South Africa:


· Sandton City (2017): The first Skins boutique outside of Europe.

· V&A Waterfront (2019): Swiftly followed by this Cape Town outpost.

· Menlyn Park (2020): Cementing Skins’ local presence in Gauteng.

· Skins Gateway (2021) and Hyde Park (2022): Further expansions, each bringing niche global beauty to a diverse audience.

· Flagship Renovation (2022): The Sandton City boutique underwent a dramatic expansion, becoming the largest Skins location in the world.
