South African musical icon Thandiswa is set to captivate her fans once again with the release of her latest single, "Kulungile," featuring the acclaimed Nduduzo Makhathini. This eagerly awaited track is set to drop on April 12, and it's the first glimpse into her forthcoming album, "Sankofa."

"Kulungile," translating to "it is well" in isiXhosa, carries a deep and meaningful message about overcoming past wounds and finding peace within oneself. Reflecting on her personal journey, Thandiswa reminds us that pain fades and wounds can be mended. "Kulungile is about healing some of the traumas that we experience as children. Many of us have faced rejection, abandonment, and sexual violence. This song is for that child within that seeks justice, comfort, and healing," she explains.
The theme of retrospection and healing is central to her upcoming album, "Sankofa." The album's title, derived from the Ghanaian language Twi, means "to go back and fetch what’s been left behind - what is important, what honors you, and what needs healing." This powerful concept promises an emotionally rich experience for listeners, as Thandiswa delves into personal and collective traumas, seeking to offer solace and understanding.
Fans can mark their calendars for May 10, 2024, when "Sankofa" is scheduled to launch. To celebrate this momentous occasion, Thandiswa will perform live at Carnival City in Johannesburg on May 11. This concert will feature tracks from her new album, as well as highlights from her iconic debut solo album, "Zabalaza," which celebrated its 20th anniversary in March. Known for her powerful and emotive live performances, Thandiswa's concert is set to be an unforgettable experience.
Tickets for the Carnival City performance are available through Computicket, giving fans the chance to witness Thandiswa’s transcendent live show firsthand. As excitement builds, "Kulungile" stands as a poignant introduction to the full spectrum of "Sankofa," heralding Thandiswa’s return to the music scene with both grace and profound depth.
