Unlocking DStv's 2024 Pricing: Hikes, Holds, and Streaming Victories

DStv is shaking things up with its new pricing for 2024, set to kick in on April 1st. While the increases range from 3.1% to 7.8%, the good news is that streaming customers won't feel the pinch as prices will remain unchanged for them. Plus, DStv is introducing contract options to help customers keep prices fixed for the remainder of their contracts.

Now, let's talk numbers. DStv Premium will see a 5.7% increase, bringing the price to R929 per month. This is slightly higher than the December 2023 CPI print of 5.1%. Other packages like Compact Plus (6.9%), Compact (4.5%), Family (3.1%), and DStv Access (7.8%) will also experience price hikes.

But fear not, EasyView, ADD Movies, and BoxOffice pricing will stay unchanged, and all streaming-only services will maintain their current subscription fees. However, access fees will increase from R115 to R120.

Now, here's the cherry on top: customers who use Price Guarantee before March 31st, 2024, will pay R879 for Premium, R399 for Compact, and R109 for Access.

And why the price hikes, you ask? According to MultiChoice SA CEO Marc Jury, it's all about balancing the books in the face of a 16% year-on-year depreciation of the Rand against the US Dollar. Plus, they're committed to securing long-term broadcast sports rights and international studio deals, which come with a hefty price tag in US Dollars.

So, while the price hikes might sting a bit, rest assured that DStv is doing its best to keep things reasonable in a challenging economic environment. And with streaming prices staying put, it's a win for viewers looking to catch their favorite shows without breaking the bank.
